FAQ

Q. Your fees page says you charge a set fee for wedding ceremonies up to 75 minutes. If my ceremony is shorter do you charge less or can I use the leftover time at my reception?

A. Most wedding ceremonies including a 20 - minute prelude last about 45 minutes to an hour. Some are shorter, some a little longer. To make things simpler for you and us we charge a set fee for prelude and ceremonies in that range.

Q. Do you play outdoors?

A. Yes. That said the weather must be reasonably cooperative for an outdoor performance to work. Excessive cold or any precipitation and we will go running for cover. The damage to our instruments from adverse weather could cost thousands to repair. We do ask that we be provided a shaded area to play in (formal dress gets hot quickly, grooms take note). And we can deal with windy weather to a point, the point at which our music goes flying off the stand!

Q. Do we need to provide anything for the trio to play?

A. We will need 3 chairs with no arms and a space to set up. An area 6’ by 6’ is usually sufficient.

Q. How does the trio dress?

A. Our dress code is normally formal. We can do full tuxedos and long dresses or black and white if you prefer. If your wedding has a theme we may be able to accommodate you.

Q. I have a singer performing at my ceremony. Can you play with him/her?

A. Yes we can. Depending on the piece of music we may need to create an arrangement of the piece, or simply get a copy of the music so that we can figure out what and when we need to play.

Q. Will you need to rehearse with the singer?

A. Yes. Typically, meeting 30 minutes or so before the prelude begins is enough rehearsal.

Q. Will you attend the wedding rehearsal?

A. Usually we do not attend rehearsals. It is enough for us to know what pieces you need for each part of the bridal procession (if there is more than one) and how many people are coming in during each piece.

If your music selections are very complex or you intend to have several musicians working together at your wedding we may need to attend the rehearsal. This will add to the cost.

Q. You say you take requests, can you play popular songs from the radio?

A. No. Songs that you hear on the radio are not usually written, or available for string trio. We would need to purchase the music and then arrange it for string trio, which is technically a violation of copyright law.

The other issue with popular songs is that they usually don't sound good when played by instruments they were not intended for. You wouldn't ask your reception band to play Mozart string quartets for the same reason.
